HISTORY

Mark Watts has always had an interest in Architecture, sketching house plans and building models of houses in his early teens. After completing his higher school certificate in 1977, Mark took up a traineeship in Electrical Engineering with a mining company in 1978. After completing his traineeship, Mark began working in the design office in 1982. In 1985 he was part of the team that introduced Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)to the design office. Mark left the mining company and began working as an electrician with his brother for about 2 years. He then took a job with another mining company as the design office supervisor. His ambition to work in the architecture field was still there, so in 1993, Mark left the mining company and started a architectural drafting business. In 1994 Mark formed the company - Highlands Design Pty Ltd - and serviced the Southern Highlands of NSW with architectural drafting. In 1995 Mark decided to formalise his expertise and began an Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Architectural Drafting, through NSW TAFE at the Shellharbour Campus. Mark completed the Associate Diploma at the end on 1997, and was awarded a Distinction from TAFE for his studies, as well as receiving the top marks for the Shellharbour Campus. Mark and his family relocated to Forbes in the central west of NSW in 1999, and worked on the family farm until 2002. Mark then spent 2 years working with a Structural Engineer in Orange. In 2004, Mark accepted the position of Site Manager for the construction of the $11million Central West Livestock Exchange at Forbes, which was completed in February 2006. Mark then returned to Architectural Drafting, setting up office at his home. In October 2007, Mark moved his office to its present location at 87 Lachlan Street, Forbes. Mark has been a Full Member of the Building Designers Association of Australia since 2008.
